All shade cloth used by Custom Blinds is high-tensile knitted polyethylene – not woven. Knitted cloth is stronger, more flexible, and resists tearing at the edges where it connects to the frame. Grades range from 80% UV block (lighter, more airflow) to 98% UV block (denser, better bird-dropping protection). For lagoon-front properties on Thesen Islands and Leisure Isle, 90–95% is the recommended grade – it catches more debris and provides better protection from the persistent salt moisture.
Galvanised steel is the default choice for Knysna – the zinc coating protects against salt-air corrosion. The structure handles the south-easterly wind conditions well because the shade cloth itself absorbs the wind load gradually rather than transferring sudden force to the frame.
