Awnings Plettenberg Bay

Retractable folding-arm, aluminium louvre, fixed wedge, and canvas awnings for Plettenberg Bay homes, holiday properties, restaurants, and lodges. Custom-manufactured, wind-sensor automated, and specified for Plett’s north-facing coastal UV and south-easterly wind exposure. Trusted by Plett homeowners since 2010, with installations across Beachy Head, Robberg, Brackenridge, Whale Rock, Goose Valley, Keurbooms, and Nature’s Valley.

Plett is not George. It is not Knysna. The conditions are more extreme and more varied within a short distance. Robberg and Beacon Isle properties sit in direct salt spray, where hardware corrodes, timber swells, and fabric degrades faster than anywhere else on the Garden Route. Move a few kilometres inland to The Crags and you trade salt for humidity, shade from indigenous forest, and bird droppings that stain fabric within days if untreated. Keurbooms and Nature’s Valley sit at the river mouth where moisture and wind combine differently from open-coast positions.

Every Plett property requires a site-specific assessment. Standard awning specifications from inland suppliers do not account for these conditions, and products specified without a site visit typically fail within 3 to 5 years. Custom Blinds assesses wind exposure, sun path, salt load, and mounting surface integrity during the site visit, then specifies the right configuration and hardware combination for the specific property position.

Plett has one of the highest concentrations of holiday and rental properties on the Garden Route. These properties need awnings that work unsupervised for weeks at a time, survive tenants who do not know how to operate manual systems, and look correct in listing photographs year-round. Motorised retractable awnings with Somfy wind sensors are the safest specification: they retract automatically when storms hit while the owner is in Johannesburg or Cape Town. Sun sensors handle the opposite case, extending the awning when UV peaks to protect interior furnishings and patio finishes.

Common Plett holiday-home installation areas include Robberg, Central Plett, Beacon Isle, Keurbooms, Keurboomstrand, The Crags, and Nature’s Valley. For wedge or fixed canvas awnings on rental properties, the no-moving-parts design eliminates tenant misuse risk entirely. App control via Somfy TaHoma lets you open or close awnings remotely from anywhere, which works well for property managers handling Plett rentals from outside the Garden Route.

Yes. Custom Blinds installs commercial-grade awnings for Plett restaurants, lodges, boutique hotels, guest houses, and retail premises along the N2 and Main Street, with installations across the hospitality strip and the beachfront precinct. Commercial installations are specified for higher usage cycles, public safety requirements, and brand-consistent finish specification. Folding-arm and louvre configurations are the most common commercial specifications. Canvas awnings work for shopfronts where fabric texture matches the brand aesthetic.

Commercial work follows the same site-visit and specification process as residential, with structural assessment of the mounting surface, pitch calculation, and written quotation. One team from first measurement through final installation. No franchise handoff.

Duncan visits your Plett property, assesses orientation, wind exposure, and mounting options, and specifies the right awning configuration and hardware for the position. No obligation.
