Aluminium-framed fly screens fit windows, sliding doors, stacking doors, and hinged openings. Fixed screens mount permanently for year-round protection. Retractable screens disappear into a slim cassette housing when not in use, keeping views across the lagoon and fynbos unobstructed.
Mesh grades range from standard fibreglass insect mesh to stainless steel micro-mesh that blocks the smallest midges common around the Swartvlei system at dusk. Mosquito and midge activity peaks from October through April, concentrated in low-lying areas on the Island, around Cola Beach, and near the lagoon foreshore.
