What outdoor canvas blinds are
An outdoor canvas blind is a roll-down screen for a patio, veranda, balcony or stoep opening. The body is weather-resistant canvas; set into it is a panel of clear PVC that acts as a window. Rolled down, the blind closes the space against wind, rain and cold. Rolled up, the opening returns to the garden. Along the coast and inland alike, it is the difference between a patio you use four months of the year and one you use twelve.
You will hear the same product called café blinds, patio blinds or canvas drop blinds. The construction is what matters: a solid canvas border for strength and privacy, a clear panel for light and outlook, and a fixing system suited to the opening. The privacy border: the detail a size chart cannot give you
Most canvas blinds on the market come with a standard border. Ours do not, and this is the point Duncan insists on. The solid canvas section at the bottom of the blind sets your privacy line. If your veranda faces a street, a standard border can leave you on display every time a car passes. We make that border taller or wider to suit the sight lines of your particular room, so that seated on your lounge furniture you are simply not visible to anyone walking or driving by, while the clear panel above still carries the light and the sky.
It is a small decision at the quoting stage and a permanent comfort afterwards. It is also only possible because the blind is manufactured for your opening rather than picked from a shelf.
The view window: when it should look like glass
The opposite brief is just as common on the Garden Route. If your patio looks over a lagoon, a fairway or a garden you have spent years on, the last thing you want is canvas where the view should be. In that case we work the other way: the clear PVC panel is maximised, borders kept to the structural minimum, and the closed blind reads almost like a glass wall. The view stays expansive; the weather stays outside.

Can the privacy border really be made to my height?
Yes. The solid canvas border is manufactured to the height that protects your seated sight lines, assessed against your furniture and what passes outside. This is discussed and agreed before manufacture.
How clear is the PVC view panel?
Clear enough that a maximised panel reads like glass from a few metres. It keeps rain, wind and cold out while the outlook stays open. Like any clear PVC it rewards gentle cleaning with a soft cloth and mild soap.
Do canvas blinds handle coastal weather?
They are made for it. Canvas borders take the flex out of wind exposure and the fixing system is chosen for the opening. For severely exposed positions we will tell you honestly if a different system from our outdoor range suits better.
