George gets more direct sunshine than most Garden Route towns. North facing windows take sustained UV through summer. Berg winds bring dry heat that stresses timber and painted surfaces. PVC does not have these problems.
George’s climate is distinct from the rest of the Garden Route. It sits further inland with less direct salt exposure than Knysna or Plett, but it gets colder winter temperatures and more sustained summer UV. PVC shutters are competitively priced and cost significantly less to maintain over time. Timber shutters require regular sanding, sealing and repainting. PVC does not. The total cost of ownership over five to ten years favours PVC in most cases.
Most George homes are completed in a single day. Larger projects with many windows may take two days. Lead time is two to four weeks from measurement. Lead time is confirmed at quote stage.
Some George estates require approval for changes to windows. Indoor shutters mounted inside the reveal typically do not need approval, but it is worth checking. We provide specifications to support applications where needed.
Yes. When closed, PVC shutters create a trapped air pocket between the glass and the room, providing effective insulation for single glazed windows. PVC has very low thermal conductivity, so the panels do not transfer cold into the room. This makes a noticeable difference in George and Wilderness where overnight temperatures regularly drop below 5°C.
