Mossel Bay sits at the eastern edge of the Western Cape’s high-UV coastal belt. The UV index peaks at 11 or higher on clear summer days, the same rating as mid-day in subtropical regions further north. Unlike inland towns where afternoon cloud cover moderates UV exposure, Mossel Bay’s south-facing bay creates long periods of unbroken direct sun, particularly for north-facing driveways and open carports that get full western exposure from midday onward.
UV damage to vehicles is cumulative and largely irreversible. Clear coat degradation typically begins after 18 to 24 months of daily unprotected exposure. Dashboard cracking and seat fading follow within three to four years. A quality shadeport with dense-grade shade cloth blocks up to 98 percent of UV before it reaches the vehicle, extending paint life and interior condition significantly. Over a five-year period, the cost of a professionally installed shadeport is typically a fraction of a single exterior respray.

One side of the frame fixes directly to the house wall, reducing the number of poles required and creating a cleaner appearance. Duncan checks wall construction and bolting points from the images you send. Brick and plaster walls in good condition are suitable; lightweight or hollow walls are assessed case by case.

Step 2: Design consultation and final measurements: If you are happy to proceed, Duncan visits the property, takes final measurements, assesses fixing options and any obstacles such as gates, drainage channels, or service pipes, and confirms the structure type, shade cloth colour (typically charcoal, beige, or green), height, and pole placement with you.
Step 3: installation and delivery: The structure is custom-built in Knysna and delivered to Mossel Bay ready for installation. Lead time is typically two to three weeks from order confirmation.
Step 4: Installation: The installation team sets posts into concrete footings, fixes the frame, and tensions the shade cloth.
