Blinds do not ask for much but they are not bulletproof either. A little attention goes a long way. So before that roller blind starts sagging or your venetian blinds twist into a modern art piece, here is how to keep them smooth, silent, and stress free.
Roller Blinds – What Can Go Wrong and How to Fix It Before It Does
1. Saggy Centre? That is Your Width Talking
If your blind is more than two and a half meters wide and you are seeing a droop in the middle, it is not a flaw. It is physics. Sorry it is too big and who sold it to you? We can upgrade the tube as a possible solution.
2. Will Not Roll Up Straight?
That usually happens when it is been pulled unevenly. Retrain it. Roll it all the way up, then pull it down slowly and evenly a few times to get it back in line.
3. Jerky or Stiff Chain?
Dust builds up in the mechanism. Open the cover and give the roller system a quick spray with silicone. Avoid oily sprays they attract grime. WD40 will work.
4. Roller Drops Down on Its Own?
The spring inside might be loose if it is a manual roller. Remove it, wind it tighter by hand, and snap it back in place to hold better tension.
Venetian Blinds – How to Keep Slats From Warping or Snapping
1. Slats Warping or Bowing?
Direct sun is the usual suspect. Even faux wood has limits. Close them during midday heat to protect them. Think of it as shade for your shade.
2. Slats Tilt the Wrong Way?
That is likely a tilt mechanism problem. Do not force it. Gently turn the wand or cords full circle to reset. If it stays stuck, the tilt rod may need replacing.
3. One Side Lifts, One Stays Down?
Check the cords as they could be uneven or tangled. Straighten them out. If that does not work, the clutch might be slipping. Give us a call.
4. Strings Looking Worn Out?
That is your cue. You can restring it, but sometimes replacing the whole blind saves time and nerves, especially on older models.
