- We fit genuine Hunter Douglas no-drill blinds and 25 mm aluminium venetians on a spring-tension mount, the most secure method. We do not fit grip-fit clamps or magnets: clamps slip in the heat, and magnets hold on steel frames only, not the aluminium common in SA homes.
- The tension mount is included at no extra cost, so you pay the same as the standard blind. Big-box retailers charge extra for a separate bracket or rod kit (about R39 to R549).

Which window frames suit a no-drill blind in South Africa?
Most South African homes are brick-and-mortar with aluminium or wooden window frames. uPVC frames are not the norm here. Because the brackets grip the recess and not the frame, the system suits both.

How do bead-clip and clamp-fit no-drill blinds work?
Grip-fit brackets clip onto the rubber bead of an opening window sash without drilling. The bracket grips the bead from behind, holding the blind headrail in place. Works on most aluminium frames with a visible rubber seal. Not suitable for fixed-pane windows with no bead, or frames where the bead sits flush.

Grip-fit blinds look neat on smaller windows and work on most aluminium frames with a clear bead. The problem in South Africa is heat. Clamps slip on older or sun-softened rubber, which is common on the coast. They can also leave tiny marks on the bead if adjusted frequently. We still get call-backs in summer when clamps loosen in Garden Route heat.

How do magnetic no-drill blinds work?
Magnetic blinds attach via strong magnets that bond directly to a steel window frame, usually with adhesive pads. Custom Blinds does not supply magnetic or adhesive systems, because the bond weakens in South African heat. The limitation is frame compatibility. Magnets only grip steel. Aluminium frames, standard in most South African homes, will not hold a magnetic blind.
On wider blinds, magnets weaken over time in summer heat and the fabric sags in the middle.

How do tension and spring-tension no-drill blinds work?
Two tension brackets, one at each end of the blind, carry the tension system. Each is wound tight against the sides of the window recess until the blind fits the opening, so nothing is screwed, glued or clamped to the frame. Works on any recess with a flat surface on each side, regardless of frame material. The recess must be at least 40mm deep to hold the roller.

Why do Custom Blinds no-drill roller blinds use a metal chain?
Custom Blinds® no-drill roller blinds are supplied with metal chain as standard, not plastic. Metal chain handles daily use and sustained UV exposure without degrading, snapping or losing tension. It is the specification detail that separates a blind built to last from one built to a price.
Plastic chain is the industry default because it costs less to source. Under South African UV conditions, sustained year-round, plastic becomes brittle. Repeated daily cycling fatigues the links. When a chain snaps the blind is effectively finished. Metal chain does not degrade under UV. It does not fatigue under normal use.
